Kid Tested! Scout's Honor: A Kid's Book about Lying

Updated: Jun 2, 2022

I am a children's book author known for writing career books for kids. However, while I awaited my wonderful illustrator to illustrate the upcoming inspiring career book, Andrew Learns about Lawyers (due out October 2021), I wrote a different type of children's book. 😲 Yep, that's right!

My son, or should I call him, my forever muse, served as the inspiration behind Scout's Honor. He is definitely at that age where he tells "stories." Like, it was getting out of control. Being an avid reader and researcher, I thought one way to steer my son away from lying would be to buy a children's book about lying that he and I could enjoy. While there are books on this topic, survey of customer reviews revealed that those books were missing something. Parents were searching for a book a little more on the nose for their 4, 5 and 6 year old.

Well, say no more! Here starts the production and publication of my newest children's book, Scout's Honor: A Kid's Book about Lying and Telling the Truth (how is that for on the nose 😉)! I tested the book on unsuspecting Andrew and I am happy, no, ecstatic to report that the book worked!

And by worked, I mean, it motivated my son to tell the truth! No, seriously! Andrew read the book TO ME because it is an easy read and engaged with it because it is easy to follow for the average 4, 5 and 6 year old. The next day after reading Scout's Honor, instead of offering me another fib about wearing his mask all day at school, Andrew got into the car and VOLUNTEERED that he had done "something bad." Andrew what did you do, I asked. He said, "I forgot to raise my mask back up after recess." AND HOUSTON, WE HAVE LIFT OFF!!!!! 🚀🚀🚀 I thanked Andrew for telling the truth, gave him a high five and tried to keep calm. He and I were so proud of him for telling the truth!

Scout's Honor has the scenario, the REASONS a child may lie, the CONSEQUENCES for lying, and the reasons why a child should tell the TRUTH. The title character, Scout, is relatable and of course, provides diversity in children's books. My little bit of research did not reveal a book about lying that starred a character of color so I had to do it.

No confusion. No distractions. This book is straightforward and to the point, just like the customers wanted. Check it out for yourself on Amazon. It is available in paperback and eBook, and is less than $10! You can thank me now or you can thank me later. 😍
