When we ask kids, “What do you want to be when you grow up?”—we mean well. But if we’re not showing them what’s possible, are we really setting them up for success?

That’s the question that led me to write career books for children. And it’s the reason behind my forthcoming release (and seventh book in the series), “Andrew Learns about Architects.”

Too often, career conversations don’t start until high school—sometimes not until college. But by then, self-doubt, stereotypes, and limited exposure have already shaped a child’s belief about what’s “for them.”That’s especially true for Black children and other underrepresented groups in the workforce.

I’m on a mission to change that.

Through my children’s career book series, I help kids discover careers early—before the world tells them what they can’t do. Each book introduces one career at a time, with:

🎨 Diverse illustrations that reflect the real world

📚 Rhyming text that makes learning fun and sticky

✨ Representation that shows kids they belong

My newest book, Andrew Learns about Architects, was inspired by my cousin—a brilliant Black woman designing beautiful, functional spaces. Most kids don’t realize that architects shape how we live, learn, and interact. And many think they need to be “great at math” to pursue that path.

This book flips that narrative.

It shows kids that creativity and curiosity can build cities. That they can be the next world builder, designer, or innovator. And that career books are more than cute stories—they’re tools for equity.

📌 When organizations, schools, and communities invest in career literacy early, we don’t just inspire kids.

We diversify pipelines.

We challenge stereotypes.

We change outcomes.

If you’re a parent, educator, or organization looking to empower the next generation of leaders—this series was written for you. Andrew Learns about Architects anticipated release is August 2025. Subscribe for updates.
