In 1951, Engineers Week (or Eweek for short) was founded by the National Society of Professional Engineers ("NSPE") to ensure a diverse future engineering workforce by increasing understanding of and interest in engineering and technology careers.
Andrew Learns about Engineers is a great book and beginner career resource to introduce young children (ages 6-10) to the career of an engineer. It is a great way to promote learning and awareness of the featured profession by engaging both kids and adults with simple and slightly complex words, and beautifully diverse and inclusive illustrations of engineers. The theme for Engineers Week 2024 (running from February 18 to February 24) is Welcome to the Future, focusing on celebrating today’s achievements and paving the way for a brighter and more diverse future in engineering.
Andrew Learns about Engineers highlights the contributions of engineers from amusement parks to clean water and so much more. It also includes images of engineering pioneers (think Mae Jemison or Lonnie Johnson!). This rhyming career exploration book provides just enough information in an easy to follow and interesting way.
