An Educator's Guide to Andrew Learns about Architects

This guide was created to help teachers and families extend the learning that begins in the picture book Andrew Learns about Architects

  • Use the discussion questions to pause during or after the story. Encourage students to share their ideas with the class, and let conversations spark naturally.
  • Assign one or two questions or an activity for groups to complete together. This allows students to collaborate—just like real architects do.
  • Students can respond to questions in writing or complete activity sheets on their own. This is a great option for early finishers or enrichment.
  • Pair the activities with math (shapes, measurement), art (design and coloring), or social studies (community helpers and Black history).

Above all, adapt the questions and activities to your students’ or child's needs and interests. The goal is to deepen comprehension, build vocabulary, and inspire students to see themselves as problem-solvers, creators, and future architects.
