Kickstarter! It's kind of a big deal in the self-publishing industry. For those who don't know, Kickstarter is a platform where "creatives," such as authors, gain financial support for their project, specifically a book, to either begin the project or bring the project to the masses. In other words, authors may do a Kickstarter campaign to get funding to finish, print and distribute their book(s).
In my naiveté, I likened Kickstarter campaigns to a fundraiser; however, I think it may be more accurate to liken Kickstarter campaigns to "pre-orders." Considering, some authors rely on pre-order sales to finish, print and/or distribute their books.
Another thing I recently learned is that supporting a Kickstarter campaign can help an author "do good!" And that is exactly what S.R.D. Harris, multi-published author of Future Miss President, Teddy Only Wants Spaghetti and Bella Loves Her Umbrella, is doing with her upcoming book, Gracie's Grace.
On July 5, 2021, S.R.D. Harris and I did a quick "check in" via IG Live where S.R.D. Harris shared the inside scoop on her book, and her Kickstarter campaign and journey. Scroll down and Press Play! (Side note: This was my first time hosting an IG Live so pardon my fumbling for the 1st 10-30 seconds 🤦🏽♀️)
First, S.R.D. Harris tells us all about her new book, Gracie's Grace and her inspiration for writing it.
Then, S.R.D. Harris tells us her "why" for choosing to "kickstart" Gracie's Grace!
Then, S.R.D. Harris tells us who has served as her mentor(s) throughout her kickstarter journey (and where you can find yours 😉).
Then, S.R.D. Harris tells us the lessons she has learned from doing her first ever Kickstarter campaign.
Last and most importantly, S.R.D. Harris shared with us how we can help her meet her goal by July 29, 2o21!
"Keep going regardless of Kickstarter result."
S.R.D. Harris answered audience questions on how to network with other authors in your community, and shared a tip on how to overcome your (or my) fear of Kickstarter.
S.R.D. Harris is a wife, mother of 3 daughters and a rescued puppy named Gracie. She has always loved reading and prefers reading a good book over watching television any day! S.RD. Harris loves to cook, travel, and spend time with her family. She also enjoys giving back and enthusiastically volunteers with Reading 365 with the American Literacy Corporation. S.R.D. Harris believes all children can love reading if they connect with the right books for them!
